To some people, finding a good entertainer is like finding a needle in a haystack. Hopefully, this blog will be like giving you a metal detector. We can’t pick your DJ for you, but we can certainly help give you the tools to find one that will do your event justice. Nobody likes a party flop, so heed our advice and make your party one that people will remember for the RIGHT reasons.

So, where do you start? While you might not know a DJ personally, you almost certainly know someone that does. Asking for recommendations on social media is a fantastic place to start. Your inquiry can be as general or as specific as you like. If you remember a party with a great dance floor or good music, ask the host who they hired. If you’re drawing a blank, throw out a wider net and ask for personal recommendations.

Once you have a couple of companies or people in mind, that’s when the real work STARTS. Finding any old DJ isn’t your quest. Your quest is to find the RIGHT DJ. There are some amazing entertainers out there that are specialists. They’re brilliant at weddings, OR mitzvahs, OR parties, but they may lack experience in the other arenas. This is why it’s important to do your research. After you have a couple of names, make sure to check out their websites. Specifically look at the photos and videos that they’ve posted to see if their ambience matches what your vision is for your party. Photos and videos can give you a really good idea of what your prospective entertainer is capable of, and how important their craft is to them. In my experience, the more thoughtful and professional an entertainer’s website is, the more dedicated they are to their craft and to making every show their best work yet.

I can’t emphasize enough how important this next step is. Once you’ve done your due diligence with websites and social media, it is imperative that you TALK TO THEM. The most important thing about selecting an entertainer for your event is ensuring that you’re on the same page. If you and your DJ have completely different visions for your event, then maybe you’re not a good fit.

At Jammin’ DJ’s, we require our DJs to do consultations with the client for EVERY event, so that any concerns are ironed out early. This also allows for us to find the right entertainers for the right events and ensure that the entertainer we’ve selected is the right fit for you.
